What do you look for in a plastic surgery website?

So just the other day I was talking to my web designer and the conversation got around the intention that readers just like yourself have when they are searching online for a plastic surgeon.

I believe the first and for most thing you want to see if great before and after pictures of previous work, I mean what more can be said than to look at the quality of a surgeons work right?

My web designed however disagreed with me, he believes you want to read great content first and photos are of course helpful but not the main reason for visiting the site

Here is what I want to know… what do you think?

Comment below, I would greatly appreciate your feedback

Sincerely,
Dr. Sinclair

Reasons to know why Breast Augmentation is gaining popularity in India

I thought this was an interesting read that women in India are opting for breast implant surgery..

To Your Health,

Dr. Sinclair

Issues of feminism and attractive looks rule the roost for majority of Indian women nowadays with beautiful faces peeking at them everywhere from the world of TV and films. Many women feel that their breasts do not fully express their feminism and therefore make them feel less attractive.

Article: Liposuction Tragedy: Mother's Death Highlights Dangers of Plastic Surgery - ABC News

This is a really unfortunate story to have read this morning, for the past 20 or so years I have been telling patients who come into my office. Accidents happen before, during and after surgery and this is exactly why it's so important that every detail be planned and discussed with patients before surgery so there his a clear understanding of the entire process.

If you are considering an cosmetic procedure, big or small be sure to ask plenty of questions and feel nothing short of comfortable with the plastic surgeon you are considering to pick for your cosmetic procedure.

Maria Shortall, a housekeeper from Weston, Fla., died after undergoing a standard lipo-sculpting procedure in mid-June at the Alyne Medical Rejuvenation Institute in Florida. Shortall worked seven days a week to pay for the $3,600 procedure, which was intended to take a few hours.

“Approximately 22 incisions [were made], which is a significant amount, in terms of a relatively, an otherwise relatively minor cosmetic procedure,” the family attorney, Michael Freedland, said. “What we do know is that a 38-year-old, otherwise healthy woman, shouldn’t go in for a minor cosmetic procedure, and die.”

At some point during Shortall’s procedure, things started to go wrong. The facility decided that she needed to be transported to Cleveland Clinic, where she was eventually pronounced dead.

Article: You can't keep breast implants for life, FDA says - Reuters

This report is interesting because it's states some rather obvious facts but also addresses some myths about breast implant dangers , always remember that breast implants be it saline or silicone are a foreign object in the body and of course they aren't meant to be lifetime devices or solutions to your ideal breast size.

Have a read below!

The agency said the studies overall confirmed its decision that implants can be used safely, but noted the conclusions could be limited because some women dropped out.

“The key point is that breast implants are not lifetime devices,” said Jeff Shuren, director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health. “The longer you have the implant, the more likely you are to have complications.”

To Young for a Breast Reduction

I like to checking on some plastic surgery forums every now and then to get an idea of what men and women are discussing about cosmetic produces, etc.

This question I copied below caught my attention because it isn't extremely common among young women to have naturally large breasts that cause such discomfort and other health problems.

However my answer to this question would be that, regardless of what age you are, it's most important that you always feel comfortable in your own body.

Even though this user is only 19 years old in my opinion she should indeed seek breast reduction surgery to alleviate her back pain and concerns of looking disproportional to her body weight.

Okay so I'm just wanting some honest opinions here.

So I'm 19, almost 20.
I weigh about 150.
I am a 34 DDD.

I constantly have back aches if I stand to long at a time. And lord knows my back aches after I go on a run.

I am strongly considering getting a breast reduction. I think this will greatly ease my back pains.

I also think that it'll make me look significantly slimmer. (I'm in college this matters :] )

I don't really know if this idea is completely out of question because I am so young.

What are your opinions???

Do Bigger breasts, mean a bigger salary? Or a feminist nightmare

This has to be one of the most concerning and ridiculous reasons for wanting to get breast surgery, having been a board certified plastic surgeon for over 20 years I have done a fair share of cosmetic consultations. When I hear from patients  the reasons for them  wanting to have breast surgery, it's reasons like this that concern me very much.

VEXED IN THE CITY SOLVING YOUR WORK-LIFE PROBLEMS

DEAR VEXED: I’m thinking about getting a breast augmentation to help me get ahead at work. Should I? Denise, 26, investment banking

AN author and economist called Catherine Hakim has written widely on an idea called erotic capital. It says that you do better at work and in your life if you are more beautiful. She has a book on this theme to be released soon.

So your question, which initially causes something of a raised eyebrow, is also fair.

But – assuming there is something to Hakim’s main theme – I would first of all question the degree to which erotic capital should be defined by breast size. Big breasts are considered a bonus by some, yes. By others, less so. Regardless, their size is beside the point: what you should be doing in a professional environment is to look as sharp as possible. Wear good clothes, nice shoes, try to be slim and fit.

But being prepared to take to the knife for career advancement seems to me to be a grave skewing of priorities. Being attractive can help your career, perhaps. But on the list of other things that can help your career, it should be ranked fairly low. Intelligence, ambition, hard work, good ethics. Focus on these to get ahead in your career. And attractiveness – particularly breast-size – is a massive double-edged sword. It’s asking for sexual attention to get ahead: something in the same sphere as giving sexual favours to the boss for a promotion. Wouldn’t you rather be promoted because you’re really good? I would.

Dr Hakim seems to me to be playing with fire – she may be stating a truism, that beauty has a positive effect on people’s estimations of you and their desire to help you. But she’s also suggesting that in a world in which women are already relentlessly preoccupied with how they look, they should be even more stressed out about it. Yes, Hakim applies the rule to men, too – but, although they’re getting more worried about looks, they’ve got a long way to go in the skin-deep neurosis stakes. And the male ability to get ahead at work has not been a problem, to date – so being told attractiveness can help won’t carry the same stressful meaning. Set an example by showing that women of all breast sizes can thrive at work. vexed@cityam.com

Can Mold Develop in Saline Breast Implants?

I was catching up on plastic surgery news and came across this very well worded article that provides some excellent practical guidelines for breast implants.

Have a read because Dr Saia hit the nail on the head when it comes to those wanting to make you think breast implants are wildly dangerous for you.

Reader Question: Mold in Saline Breast Implants?

June 29th, 2011 by admin Leave a reply »

I read online a woman telling about how her saline breast implants got mold and she had terrible problems. Does this happen very often?

A few years ago I put up a YouTube video of my experience with silicone gel breast implants. Now every six months to a year somebody posts a comment about how saline implants are just as dangerous. A frequent portion of that response is a statement about a moldy saline implant. My response is and always has been, if saline implants are so often affected by mold, then why have I never seen it?

I have been implanting (and at times removing) breast implants for over 15 years. You would think if something was a dangerous and common phenomenon that I would be seeing it. I haven’t. Not even once.

A saline implant when left on a table outside of your body can develop mold, but this doesn’seem to happen inside patients. The difference is probably that when implants are properly placed inside a woman’s breasts, her immune system helps protect them from such problems.

Breast implants have risks, but these risks can be minimized by making good choices….choose good surgical talent and facilities, don’t go too large, put your implants under good soft tissue coverage and stay with saline over silicone implants in most cases.

Understand that there are special interest groups of sorts online that want everyone to believe breast implants are dangerous. These groups exaggerate and fabricate on a regular basis to support that belief.

Best Regards,

John Di Saia MD

Breast Revision Options For Previous Breast Augmentation Patients - AmericanHealthAndBeauty.com

This is one of the better articles have read in a long while about of the things that occur in the a women's body when she elects to have breast augmentation, it also answers some questions that not too many people think to ask... Take a minute and be sure to have a read

Breast Revision Options For Previous Breast Augmentation Patients

Breast Revision, a highly specialized and customized procedure, can transform previously unsatisfactory breast implant results in just a short period of time.

According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), breast augmentation has gone up 22% since 2000 to nearly 300,000 procedures being performed in 2010. And while many of these patients that undergo breast enhancement are quite pleased with their results, there are also patients that may not be. Breast Revision can help both patients who are not happy with their immediate results or who have had breast implants that have aged or changed in the passing years.

According to Denver Breast Augmentation specialist Dr. Gregory Buford, “Prior to surgery, one of the most common complications is unrecognized asymmetry in the breasts. A few years ago, a study was released looking at asymmetry and the findings suggested that a majority of women have some degree of asymmetry. In reality, in clinical practice, I actually feel that almost all women have some degree of asymmetry. This asymmetry must be identified for appropriate preoperative planning to enable the most optimal outcome.”

An experienced and seasoned plastic surgeon who has performed many breast augmentations is sensitive to the nuances and subtle difference in breasts and will adjust their augmentation accordingly to deliver the most symmetric and visually pleasing results.

A common problem that patients who have undergone previous breast enhancement have is one breast may be higher on one side. There could be a number of reasons for this and many ways to correct it, depending on why it appears to be higher.

“Whenever something is implanted into the body, whether it be a hip, joint, or breast implant,” Dr. Buford notes, “A capsule will form around the implant because it is a foreign object.” The body forms a capsule around the foreign object to protect itself from the implant for as long as it is inside the body. While the capsule is soft the majority of the times, there are cases in which the capsule will harden and distort the implant.

“The capsule can tighten down and actually shrink down to distort the implant and patients see is a superior elevation of the implant and feel a very firm breast. At this point, most people think that their implants have became hard,” says Dr. Buford, “However, implants do not become hard and they never do. It is the scar tissue around the implant, the capsule that contracts and distorts the implant, resulting in a overly firm breast.”

This can be solved by removing the implant on the effected side and replacing it with a new implant in addition to making changes to the surrounding capsule. It is recommended that an entirely new implant be used since over time, low-grade bacteria can grow on a breast implant while it is in the body which then cannot be destroyed without the removing the implant.

Another option is surgical revision to the capsule that is formed by the body. In most cases, a simple procedure can be performed so that the breast implant drops and expands to a more natural setting. “Through the initial incision, I can score or add a transverse incision to the capsule to open it up and allow the implant to drop,” states Dr. Buford.

In more complex cases of capsular contracture, Dr. Buford may remove parts of or the entire capsule and reposition the implant within the breast pocket. This is performed depending on the degree of contracture, thickness of breast tissue overlying the capsule and the ease or difficulty of removal associated with capsule revision.

The last option is switching out the type of implant. As technology improves for silicone gel implants, swapping out saline implants for silicone can quickly augment the look and feel of breasts. “9 times out of 10, that actually works very well. For the 1 time out of 10 that it doesn’t work is in patients that have very thin overlying skin or very little glandular tissue to start out with,” Dr. Buford states, “In that case, a very effective way, we’ve found, is to put a sling - an interpositonal graft that thickens the skin between the implant and the breast tissue.”

In most cases of breast revision, the procedure takes approximately an hour and most patients experience as little as 24 hours or less of downtime before they can return to normal activity. The majority of patients can control the pain with over the counter pain medication and may experience some incisional pain but no where near the pain of the original surgery.

Of course, the best way to avoid breast revision is get it done right the first time. Denver breast implants specialist Dr. Buford stresses the importance of seeing an experienced physician who specializes in breast augmentation, “It really comes down to artistry. Patients should look for a surgeon that doesn’t want to just make their breasts bigger, they should look for someone who will customize their particular breast augmentation to them, to their bodies.”

This Will Be The New Way Breast Augmentation Is Done Very Soon

I read a very interesting article in Wired Magazine a few months back about utilizing a person's own fat when it comes to breast augmentation, though fat transfer has been around a while, this is VERY different I then recorded a youtube video about it that you can find here
I also just finished reading about a surgical institute in Minnesota now offering this type of breast augmentation surgery... It really in exciting to see this technology being accepted by my fellow doctors... ultimately it safer for the patient and results in a true win / win for everyone.

Edina, MN, April 01, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Shu Cosmetic Surgery Institute, Minnesota's leading center for comprehensive cosmetic care, has launched a revolutionary procedure, RejuveFillTM stem cell enhanced natural breast augmentation, that will allow patients to increase breast size using harvested fat and stem cells or Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRC’s) while simultaneously eliminating unwanted body fat. RejuveFillTM procedure employs the latest technologic advances in fat harvesting and stem cell transfers to provide women with the breasts they want without the need for implants.
